Getting An Undergraduate And Postgraduate Degree

An undergraduate degree is a shortened term for an educational degree obtained by a qualified individual who has successfully completed undergraduate courses in any given educational program. In the United States, it’s usually earned at an accredited school, like a university or college. Undergraduate degrees can be from community colleges to technical schools and may even be awarded from universities with a distinction of their own. The length of time a student spends on a program is often an indicator of the subject he or she is majoring in. Some undergraduate degrees are very short, from a few months to two years, while others may take four to five years.

Types

A number of different types of Criminal Justice programs in North Carolina. The most common of these types is a Bachelor of Science (BS) or Bachelor of Arts (BA) program. Students who choose these programs must first enroll in an undergraduate course that covers the science they wish to pursue as well as some liberal arts coursework. Depending on the program, many undergraduate students complete their courses in less than 2 years. A Master’s degree takes longer to earn, typically from a full academic year to five academic years.

Other full-time undergraduate degree programs offer a mixture of general and graduate courses in addition to the usual general bachelor’s degree. For example, a student who has an interest in the medical field may want to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This is an ideal program for someone who plans to go on to become a nurse practitioner or perhaps someone who already works in the nursing field but wants to improve upon his or her skills.

The number of hours in a typical full-time undergraduate degree varies. At most, an undergraduate student will spend about two hundred hours in a semester, but this varies depending on whether the school is offering a part-time or full-time program. Part-time programs allow a student to attend class during the evening and on weekends, while full-time programs are usually held at the beginning or end of the academic year. In addition, some schools require students to submit a minimum amount of credit during the summer session before the start of the next academic year, while other schools allow students to enroll in the fall but accept credit in the winter.
